If you are looking for fresh seafood, the aptly named Rock Restaurant in Zanzibar is literally inside the ocean.
Built on a large rock just off the beach of Michanwi Pingwe in Africa, the restaurant is only accessible by foot if the tide is out. Otherwise, you can strap your floaties on and swim out to the rock, or take a boat. The Rock Restaurant probably has the freshest seafood you will ever experience, and the awesome experience of eating inside the Indian Ocean is worth the price of admission. The restaurant only seats 14, so if you want to check it out you might consider calling ahead. I don’t eat seafood because I feel like shrimp are the cockroaches of the sea, but if I found myself at the Rock Restaurant I might give it a try.
