The Setai: My Downtown Addiction

Written by Bryce

The spa offers a brand new gym that’s quiet and clean, and that’s a dream come true to me. When I’m sweating my snacking habits off, I don’t want to be in a room full of smelly strangers. I like my alone time, and the Setai offers it in the most upscale way I’ve seen in Manhattan yet.

I live all the way downtown as it is, and there are a lot of conveniences to downtown Manhattan life including an endless sea of food options, shopping, transportation, and a different gym on every block.  In fact, within 5 blocks of my home there are 5 different gyms.  I used to be a member of Equinox, which is supposed to be one of the more posh NYC gyms complete with towel service, high end finishes, typically great equipment, and some spa and food offerings.  Once I met The Setai, I said good-bye to my old gym.

The Setai Wall Street is actually a high-end residential condo building on Broad Street, just steps away from the heart of our nation’s most intense financial dealings.  Residents and club members have access to the 12,000 square foot spa that offers strikingly beautiful finishes inspired by the far east and accents from the modern west.

Although the gym is only open to club members, the spa offers a full menu of services that are open to anyone willing to head to the far end of the city- and believe me, a massage from Richard is worth it.  When I booked my 1 hour massage appointment and was told that I’d be massaged by a man, I was initially nervous.  I mean, normally, the idea of being naked and getting rubbed down by a guy I don’t know isn’t my thing… In this case, it worked out perfectly.  The room was dark, he was professional, and somehow all the tiny aches and pains I’ve had in my back for weeks and weeks just melted away.  Richard quite possibly might be a muscle psychic: he knows exactly where to put pressure.

I know I’ll definitely be back to get into the gym for all the flirty little dresses I’ve got planned for Spring/Summer ’10, but I also plan to check out the rumored-to-be-downright-amazing Setai Essential Facial, “created to stimulate cell renewal and regenerate the skin providing long lasting results that counteract the signs of aging.”
