The Top 5 Foods that Make You More Beautiful

Written by Bryce

1. Almonds. These delicious little nuts  contain fiber to keep you slim, healthy fats that are great for your heart and skin, and minerals including magnesium, which is partially responsible for muscle function.  The very same muscle function that keeps the tiny muscles in your face from letting your skin sag!

2. Oily Fish. You’ve heard it several times before “Eat salmon!” But it’s more than just salmon- fish including tuna, sardines, and mackerel are all high in the essential omega-3 fatty acids that combat aging, inflammation, osteoporosis, and heart issues. Less inflammation = gorgeous, glowing skin.  And let’s face it, you’re probably young now, but there’s nothing cute about brittle bones when you’re only 50.

3. Apples. An apple a day keeps the doctor away!  Apples are packed full of pectin, the fiber that’s credited with lowering cholesterol by up to 10% in 3 weeks, curbing appetite, staving off diabetes, and weight management.  The vitamin C in apples helps protect against UBV rays to protect from wrinkles, sun damage, and photodamage.  Vitamin C is also a known skin enhancer- it promotes collagen production!

4. Tea.  Green tea is rich in a powerful antioxidant called catechin that you probably haven’t heard of.  Catechin is a powerful, water-soluble polyphenol and antioxidant that is easily oxidized. Green tea contains four main catechin substances: EC, ECg, EGC and EGCg, all of which are called catechin. EGCG is the most powerful and popular of these catechins. EGCG as an antioxidant is about 25-100 times more potent than vitamins C and E. One cup of green tea provides 10-40 mg of polyphenols and has antioxidant effects greater than a serving of broccoli, spinach, carrots, or strawberries.

5. Acai berry. This amazing fruit is native to the Amazon rainforest and has only recently become popular and widely available.  It is rich in fiber, omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids which regulate cardiovascular health, as well as strong anthocyanins to combat aging.  Combat aging? Sign me up, because 4 years ago I planned on being 21 forever.

We’re big fans of Harry & David’s fruit baskets as gifts.  This one is under $60, and is great for anyone that cares about their health.

My personal favorite (obviously, if you know me) is Village Tea Company’s Sassy Green Tea.  It combines all the health benefits of green tea AND acai, in ultra-cute recycled packaging.  Each canister of loose leaf tea is enough to make about 80 cups, and the the steeped tea leaves make an amazing face mask when you’re done drinking your tea.  Sweet!
