When people think of Connecticut, they generally think of stately manor houses, manicured lawns, leaves changing, and Martha Stewart’s Renee Zellweger mole-rat eyes. I am here to tell you that there is a lot more to Connecticut than meets the eye. Namely the city of New Britain.
As many of you may already know Bryce and I recently traveled to Connecticut for a TV appearance and made the huge mistake of staying in New Britain. All I am going to say is that one of our hotel amenities was a tiny man that resembled a derelict gargoyle perched by the front door. We were also run down in the parking lot by a ranting homeless man from his dumpster bed, and Bryce asked me to sleep by the window because she didn’t feel safe.
We were on the second floor and the window was sealed.
The next day, however, we took a long leisurely drive through Connecticut and came away with a completely different outlook. One of my favorite parts of a road trip is taking a scenic route and going off the beaten path (thank God for GPS, which we named Nancy after a certain bitch on Dancing with the Stars). We discovered that some parts of Connecticut, such as Avon, are exactly as we pictured them in our dreams – with the perfect balance of rustic charm and shabby chic elegance. Right now is the perfect time for a relaxing tour of the countryside, as the leaves turn and Connecticut becomes a picturesque vision of autumnal beauty. Maybe these photos will inspire your trip.
