I think we can all agree that living in New York takes its toll on you. The energy of the city has a life of its own, and even if you work as little as 3 days a week (as I do) and spend of the rest of the time masturbating (as I do) you still get caught up in the constant movement of city life and it very easily translates into stress. I always say my favorite thing about living in the city is leaving it. That hasn’t changed, but sometimes I find it really hard to ditch the city mindset and embrace the fact that I am in a new place. The point of a vacation is to relax and leave behind all the trapping and stress of your daily life. Sometimes I find that really hard to let go of. I find myself reading a book on my phone in the bath at my mom’s house instead of listening to the crickets and wind-chimes. I find myself tweeting about how beautiful the beach is instead of enjoying it privately and personally.
Being able to live in the moment is something that is very important to our mental health. I have tried various tricks over the years to turn off my restless mind. The truth is that in this very moment, the only thing that really exists is you. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing, your job, your relationships, your money problems, and your sex life don’t exist at all.
You have to find a way to enjoy the fact that you and your surroundings are the only things that truly exist at any given moment. Find a way to do this on a vacation, and you will experience inner nirvana.
