Travel Spotting: Hatcher Pass, Alaska

Written by Tanner

Don’t pass up the chance to visit Hatcher Pass

Alaska is beautiful, pretty much anywhere you go, at any time of year (except April during “break up” season). However, there are some corners of the state that truly stand out in my mind as must-visit/must-see spots, and at the top of that list is a little place called Hatcher Pass. It’s fun to visit in the summer when you can tour the old ruins of Independence gold mine, but it is especially popular in the winter. With bountiful snow cover, it’s a hot spot for snowmachiners, cross country and backcountry skiers, and best of all, sledders! It’s also the perfect place to go for a romantic getaway – you can snuggle by the fire in a cozy cabin and enjoy the most delicious sourdough pancakes at the main lodge this side of Susitna for breakfast – yum!
