When I was 18, I left the small town where I grew up and went out to whore my way around the country. I have lived in New York for 5 years now, and the longer I am away from my native Florida, the more proud I am to have been raised there. Yes, I grew up in a place where mullets and wife-beaters are appropriate for church and the finest dining establishment is a Golden Corral, but there is a ride or die kind of loyalty with Floridians that you just don’t see in many other places. Just ask anyone you know that used to live in Florida. Chances are, they still have their state ID, and possibly their phone number.
That is why I think these “Heart your State” necklaces are so cool. They show that you are proud of where you came from, no matter where you go.
