Travel Spotting: Igloo Hotel Kakslauttanen in the Arctic Circle

Written by Gary

If you are like me, you always assumed that people who live in cold places like Finland, the Arctic circle, or Minnesota were bat-sh*t crazy. I believe there are only 3 good reasons for snow: to ski, as a complement to hot chocolate, and to make the jacuzzi feel even better than it already does. I have also always assumed that everyone who lives above Canada lives in an Igloo, which these pictures prove wasn’t so far from the truth.

The Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland (which to my knowledge, is somewhere above or below New York) has about 20 igloos that are available to rent through the winter months. Apparently there is some tricksy Finnish voodoo that keeps the glass from fogging up even when temperatures dip far below 0 – which makes me even more nervous because if a Snow Yeti is coming to devour me I would rather not have a crystal clear view of it’s approach.

The Hotel is close to the Urho Kekkonen national park as well, so if you are a winter traveler who enjoys skiing, sledding, and hypothermia this snowy resort might be the perfect destination for you.
