Who doesn’t love a good art installation created by a demented old man? Salvation Mountain is located in Calipatria, California near Slab City. In 2011, Leonard Knight was placed in long-term care facility for dementia. Apparently his faith is more powerful than any mental disease though, because he managed to use thousands of gallons of paint to decorate a hill with various Christian sayings and bible verses.

Due to the harsh climate around Salvation Mountain, many visitors have donated paint and time to keep the installation up and running.

I applaud the man’s conviction in creating something unique, if not memorable. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the proverb he chose to paint front and center, though. The quote is: “Say Jesus I’m a sinner please come upon my body, and into my heart.”

Is it just me, or does that read like a line from a gay porn filmed in Mexico?
