Travel Spotting: South Florida is for the Birds

Written by Gary

Birding is the new IT hobby this year. Why? Because it takes little to no effort, gets you outside, reminds you that there is nature in this world, and doesn’t require a special outfit (you can wear heels or flats – no wetsuit or helmet necessary). During a trip to South Florida a few weeks ago the TLS staff visited the Green Cay Wetlands and spent a leisurely afternoon traipsing around the lush green atmosphere searching for our avian friends.

To more avid birders binoculars, smartphone apps, books, and a basic knowledge of variations in species is necessary. To the casual observer though, birding is just a fun way to pass the time. It becomes a game trying to see how many different types of birds you can spot, and basically anywhere in South Florida is the perfect place to go as many of the cities host a wide variety of different birds and some, such as Hillsborough County, have even been named as sanctuaries for our fine feathered friends.

Defecating on our windshields aside, birds are actually fascinating creatures. Check out some of the photos we snapped, and then go out and spot some for yourself.
