Travel Spotting: Top Five Things To Do In Baltimore

Written by Gary

The lobby of The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court

The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court is the perfect place to stay if you love classic elegance and refinement. It is the perfect place to visit, if you can’t exactly afford elegance and refinement. Everything, from the gorgeous chandelier and grand staircase in the lobby, to the contemporary art adorning the walls is meticulously designed and a feast for the eyes. The antique furniture hearkens back to the days of antiquity in a super charming way, and our room was equipped with a carved four-poster bed and spectacular views of the harbor. Even if you don’t stay the night, you should grab some dinner at Brighton’s for contemporary American cuisine, or visit The Explorers Lounge for a cocktail as a quick respite from your exploration of the Inner Harbor, which is literally across the street.

Just so you know, the bathtub in our suite was big enough for 7 people. I am not exaggerating.

Inner Harbor

The Inner Harbor is considered the centerpiece attraction of downtown Baltimore. You can’t visit this city without at least grabbing a bite at the many restaurants, checking out some dinosaurs at the Maryland Science Center, or getting grossed out by seahorse mating rituals at the National Aquarium. The Inner Harbor also houses a myriad of different boats from Military warships to masted schooners, and colorful kayaks. If you want the most bang for your buck, the Inner Harbor is the perfect place to visit.

The National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Basilica was the first metropolitan cathedral in the United States. The appropriate title is the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, but you can refer to it as an awesome place to take in some gorgeous neoclassical architecture, see a 17th-century organ, and wander around a beautiful piece of Baltimore history without a guide, if you so choose.

Gwynn’s Fall Trail

Gwynn’s fall is the perfect way for a nature lover to explore some natural wonders, a history buff to see some of Baltimore’s industrial origins, and a lesbian sex freak to have uninterrupted outdoor relations. The 15-mile trail is completely open for urban hiking, biking, or dyking.

Fell’s Point Pier

Some people like to act like locals when they travel. I don’t really know what Baltimorians do in their spare time, but I imagine that they prefer events that are free (because who wouldn’t). If you want to do something interesting and cozy, you can go to a free movie at Fell’s Point Pier. Just make sure you bring a folding chair, some blankets, and some white wine disguised as a lemonade spritzer.
