Waitomo caves glow worms

Waitomo Caves in New Zealand is the perfect vacation destination for the adventure seeking girl that played with glow-worms in her youth. Not only are the caverns believed to be over 2 million years old, but they are populated by uniquely the indigenous Fungus gnat, which may sound glamorous, but is really just a lazy way of saying Arachnocampa Luminosa, or glow worm.

Guided boat tours through the caverns allow tourists to witness the bioluminescence from below, or more experienced spelunkers can opt for one-on-one tours through tiny crawlspaces and different chambers.

Whether you just want to see some sparkly worms glowing, or prefer to have the heart-stopping adrenaline thrill ride of shimmying through various claustrophobic rock tunnels, the glow worm caves have something for every traveler of the world.
