Viagra for Kids (it’s true)

Written by Bryce

Little blue pills… for minors?

Viagra, the little blue pill that made Pfizer’s stock soar, is now for kids. In addition to helping men “get it up,” the drug reportedly is effective in treating children with a rare lung disease.  Viagra, as a result, may soon be available in kiddie doses.  Finally, a medicine that’s good for the whole family!

Viagra, which modifies blood flows, could reduce unusually high blood pressure in a child’s lungs, or pulmonary arterial hypertension. Symptoms include dizziness, chest pain and fatigue.

A panel of FDA advisers will determine on Thursday whether to green light the kid’s version.[…]

The FDA began asking Pfizer in 2001 to develop ways to use Viagra to treat children suffering from the lung ailment, but the pool of just 600 patients offered limited revenue opportunities.

Doctors who have been using the drug on children say it is well-tolerated and doesn’t have as many side effects as other treatments.

  • It makes you wonder who thought to try it on kids for this? Also, if it works on lung ailments in children, could it do the same for those suffering since 9/11? Will it become the new HBP med of choice. I can see guys now claiming HBP just to get some and get it covered by their insurance.
