Here’s why I avoid fluoride at all costs.
Growing up, my mom always bought toothpastes which were specifically formulated to avoid fluoride- excluding this ingredient was of the utmost importance. As a child, I couldn’t comprehend this, as I’d always see everyone else using toothpastes which read, in bold, “Strengthens teeth with Fluoride” as well as “Prevents Cavities with Fluoride.”
I thought, “Why doesn’t want my mom to use these toothpastes? Why do I have to use these ‘weird’ ones?”
The truth is, we, as Americans, have been misled about fluoride.
From the government fluoridating our tap water supply to formulating toothpastes in which fluoride is a main ingredient, we have been taught through such exemplification that fluoride is (supposed to be) beneficial to our health.
Fluoride, however, is detrimental to our health.
Did you know that America is the only developed country in the world to fluoridate their tap water supply?
Here are five other alarming facts about fluoride which may have you reconsider drinking fluoridated water, as well as buying fluoride-based toothpastes and supplements:
- Fluoride is shown to have adverse effects on your whole body. According to a 500-page scientific review, fluoride is an endocrine disrupter which has been cited to affect our bones, brain, thyroid gland, pineal gland, and even our blood sugar levels.
- Fluoridated water poses particular health risks to infants. A number of American formulas contain fluoridated water, which may result in infants consuming up to 100 times the amount of fluoride recommended. Consequently, babies with such overexposure may have lower IQs. According to Harvard University research, children who live in areas with highly-fluoridated water have “significantly lower” IQ scores than those who live in low-fluoride areas.
- Fluoride supplements aren’t even FDA-approved. It’s pretty alarming that such a thing — fluoride supplements, even exists.
- There is no proof that swallowing fluoride provides health benefits. It’s been addressed by the health industry that fluoride’s only “justifiable” (little) health benefit comes from topical application to the teeth.
- Fluoride contains arsenic. Due to fluoride’s arsenic content, those who consume large amounts of fluoride are at an increased risk for cancer.
