1992 Fashion Meets Contemporary Art

Sobral blends Brazilian fashion with pop art and modern influences.

A few years ago when I was spending a fair amount of time in Brazil, I was given a small jewelry gift by my baby daddy. It was a fabulous, chunky Sobral bracelet that went with just about everything. I wore it with heels to dinner, with skimpy bikinis to Ipanema beach, and I think I might’ve even slept with it on a few times.  Sobral bracelets are colorful, wild, and most pieces are unique because of the way they’re made from recycled resin. I’ve been a big fan since that first piece in 2008, and I’ve gone on to own a few more pieces, since.

I’m especially in love with some pieces from the more current collections- they all have a very distinct early 1990’s vintage chic thing going on, but presented in a super modern art kind of way. And they’re eco-friendly, hooray for recycled materials!

I love the paneled cuff because the silvery greys match perfectly with just about anything, and can pair with your existing metal jewelry with ease.

The orient earrings scream out “where a little black dress, slutty heels, tie back your hair, and wear me!” …I will. Oh, I will, and for $34 I’ll get a backup pair just in case I lose an earring from a wild night of dancing with Stephen Pischl.

And, guys, take notice: if you need a gift for a girl, this chunky grey cuff is fab. It’ll match anything, and Sobral cuffs have a way of getting girls hooked for a little while. I know from experience.
