20 Near Instant Ways to Take Years Off Your Look (as told by Dr. Youn)

Written by Bryce

For those of you who aren’t already familiar with Dr. Anthony Youn, MD, he’s one of America’s leading plastic surgeons, an ASAPS member doctor, and basically a wizard of anti-aging. He seems to magically zap everything he touches into youth, so when he new book The Age Fix came out recently, I obviously read it cover to cover. COVER TO COVER, PEOPLE.

Here are the top 20 age-defying lessons I learned that just about anyone is capable of, and some other random factoids you’ll likely find interesting:

  1. You can make your jawline and neckline look a few years younger with makeup. If you’ve been no stranger to contouring, consider Dr. Youn’s tips in the same family– adding a slightly darker shade to the area just below the jawbone will draw eyes to the lighter, brighter spots like your cheeks and collarbone (and those typically age less aggressively). “For and instant jawline lift, contour your neck with a powder that is a shade or two darker than the skin of your face. Start at your chin and work it along your jawline to hide the jowls and make your jawline more defined.”
  2. Julia Roberts had a nose job. “To my eye, her nasal tip looks thinned, as if cartilage was removed from it.” INTERESANTE. Whatever Julia’s nose may be, I love her.
  3. Skin lifting DIY scrubs are a thing. Dr. Youn shared his recipe on page 100 for “Coffee Ground and Olive Oil Scrub” which instantly tightens the skin, providing a temporary lift. All you need is 3 tablespoons of coffee grounds and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Get to it!
  4. When it comes to fillers for nasolabial folds, he trusts Juvederm Ultra Plus the most. There are a ton of options out there, but this one is his favorite because he thinks it tends to last longer and is slightly easier to inject. Check, check!
  5. A good diet can keep your nose from growing out of control. Noses grow with age, and sticking to an anti-inflammatory diet “can actually (perhaps surprisingly) be nose friendly as you age.” Bring on the berries.
  6. You can make your lips appear plumper with color. Line, fill and blot your lips. Apply a small dab of light-catching gloss or shimmer, or even a slightly (hint: very slightly) lighter shade to the center of the lower lip. Boom, eyes tricked.
  7. You can make your own DIY lip plumpers at home. Page 110 features Dr. Youn’s recipe for petroleum jelly, peppermint extract, and a wee bit of cayenne pepper. If you’re not a Vaseline person, don’t worry, coconut oil works well in place of it.
  8. There’s a pillow for your boobs. Dr. Youn swears by the Pillow Bra and the Breast and Chest Pillow for women prone to chest and breast wrinkles. They help position women’s bodies in ways that avoid those super deep creases that happen over time. Pillows to take years off your look, wow.
  9. Stop eating at Applebees. I swear, this is a real line from the book. High salt content found in chain restaurant meals can actually puff up your eyelids and undereye areas– abstaining from junk food and processed foods can help have a calming, youth-enhancing affect on your face in a matter of hours.
  10. Apply eye cream a few minutes before undereye concealer. Your concealer will look flaky, dull, or obviously fake if your skin isn’t properly hydrated. Let it soak in a few minutes and then get to your best concealin’.
  11. Use BOTOX to lift your droopy brows. You don’t need to inject a ton to make your whole face frozen– just a little bit by the brows instantly lifts the browline so eyes seem brighter, more alert, and younger. How’s that for a trick to take years off your look?
  12. Thin brows are a NEVER. Even if they’re en vogue, they’re never the answer to looking more youthful. Humans simply have thicker, more noticeable brows during their teens and 20s, so diverging from that is an instant cue to onlookers that you’re aging.
  13. You can use Latisse to thicken your brows, and doctors tell patients about this off-label use all the time.
  14. Eyelash transplants exist. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.
  15. Skin tightening creams can help droopy boob syndrome, too. Dr. Youn is a fan of Fat Girl Slim.
  16. Contour your boob are with the same makeup you use on your face. That’s right– a little of your darker shade contour cream or powder can be applied lightly to the cleavage area to make the region seem, well, more. Volume is associated with youth, so pair that with a good push up bra and you’re all set for college again.
  17. There’s a thing called the “Thai Breast Slap.” I AM NOT KIDDING. There’s a whole paragraph in Dr. Youn’s book about the Thai government promising slap therapy to small boobs in an effort to make them as much as 4 inches bigger.
  18. Lift your butt into oblivion with false advertising shapewear. There’s something called “Bubbles Bodywear” out there, and Dr. Youn wants you to squeeze your cheeks into it so you can feel what the Kardashians feel every single day.
  19. Vitamin E. It’s still the easiest, least expensive way to lighten a scar.
  20. Blondes shouldn’t bother with laser hair removal. Electrolysis is the best option for blondes or those with white or grey hair.
  21. Apple cider vinegar will stop your stink. If you have serious BO, apple cider vinegar in your pits may be the answer. Try it.
