Beauty Spotting: I Just Tried Hair Chalking

Written by emilyc

I realize that I’m as behind on this colored hair trend as my Abercrombie-wearing neighbor is on trends in general. I do, however, feel the need to inform everyone of what really happens when you try hair chalking. If you’re not familiar, it’s exactly what it sounds like: you wet pieces of hair, color on them with pastels from your local art store like you’re five years old again coloring in your Barbie coloring book, then you lock in the color with your fave heat styling tool.

I was very happy with the resulting appearance – totally ombre-chic in a dark pre-fall color palette. I was very unhappy with the resulting texture of my hair – totally something that I’m pretty sure I have fed to the animals at the Central Park petting zoo before. The color doesn’t last extremely long, but what do you expect when you draw on your hair with $3 craft supplies like it’s art class? Note to self: don’t wear Alexander Wang next time you do hair chalking.
