M.I.A. is doing a collaboration with Versace’s “Versus” line, and just because she’s a musician does not mean she’s not sartorially qualified. Few people know that she studied at Central St. Martins, London’s famed fashion college, so this collaboration is fully warranted. Her inspiration? The bootleg clothing she’d see being sold in the markets while growing up in East London. In M.I.A.’s words, “Versace designs have always been bootlegged, now it’s Versace bootlegging the bootleg.” I don’t think I’ve employed the word “bootleg” so much since describing Rihanna’s worst weaves.
Gold coins galore! This looks like something straight out of the back of a van in Chinatown, in a good way.
I can feel the poly-blend from here. It’s so bad, it’s good. Just keep in mind: “M.I.A. approves.”
Is this what happens when Givenchy trickles down to outlet stores? Good for M.I.A. for making outlet store-chic something cool.
Why buy real knockoffs when you can buy fake knockoffs?
