A stay in one of the world’s most expensive-to-construct buildings (a staggering $1.5 billion) is sort of like a temporary stay in a giant, resort-like donut– and that’s fine by me. The 27-story Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort features views the Huzhou skyline near Shanghai and comes to life at night with the appearance of being a glowing donut orb that would be Homer Simpson’s ideal vision from space.

The hotel was built on the shores of Lake Taihu and includes 39 private villas, 44 suites, and 321 guest rooms– all aimed at China’s new, upwardly mobile business class. A recent price search turned up rooms at rates of about $250 USD per night, which seems fair for staying in a giant lakefront donut.
