10 Skin Healing Foods

Eat these foods to keep your skin healthy and strong!

Your skin takes A LOT of damage every day! It’s exposed to the UV rays of the sun, pollution in the air, cigarette smoke, car exhaust fumes, contact with germs and bacteria, and so much more. By the end of the average day, your body is full of toxins that have been absorbed into your skin. It can take a while for your skin to recover from the damage done, which is why it’s so important that you eat the skin healing foods listed below. They’ll help to repair your skin, leaving it fresh and healthy:

  1. Avocadoes — Few foods are a better source of Vitamin E than avocadoes, which is why they’re at the top of this list. Vitamin E protects your skin from damage and traps moisture inside your skin. If you want to have fresh, healthy, beautiful-looking skin that is protected, you need more Vitamin E.
  2. Olive oil –– Olive oil can not only help to protect your skin, but it can even help to reduce the signs of aging: dry, wrinkled, and sagging skin. The monounsaturated fats in olive oil help to keep your skin young and fresh, and the polyphenols contained by the oil will protect it from oxidative damage.
  3. Oats –– Oats are some of the healthiest foods on the planet, all thanks to their high fiber, protein, carbs, and mineral content. Oats help to balance out your hormone levels, and they provide the protein needed to produce collagen.
  4. Tomatoes –– Tomatoes are an excellent source of Vitamin C, but they’re also rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that will help to protect your skin from sunburn. Lycopene improves the natural sun protection of your skin, helping you to be more resistant to the sun’s damage.
  5. Sardines –– Like all fatty fish, sardines are amazing for your health! They contain a lot of Omega-3 fatty acids, which helps to reduce inflammation–both internally and on your skin. You can prevent acne and other skin problems by eating a bit more Omega-3 fatty acids!

  1. Dark chocolate –– As if you needed another reason to eat it! The flavonols in cocoa protect your skin and boost circulation, ensuring that your skin gets all the oxygen and nutrients it needs to be healthy. Cocoa can also help to reduce dryness and flakiness, and all you need is a small 1-ounce portion!
  2. Grass Fed Beef –– How is red meat amazing for your skin? Simple: it has a lot of protein, which is used to produce the collagen and elastin that protects and heals your skin!
  3. Green Tea — Few foods contain as much antioxidant value as green tea, so it’s a great addition to your menu. The polyphenols in green tea will help to reduce sun damage, promote smooth, healthy skin, and increase blood flow to the skin. All in all, it leads to much healthier, more beautiful skin.
  4. Walnuts –– Keep your skin healthy by eating more Omega-3 fatty acids! A lack of alpha-linolenic acid (a type of Omega-3) can lead to eczema and a number of other skin health problems, but thankfully walnuts are an amazing source of these fatty acids.
  5. Kale –– It may not taste great, but it’s AMAZING for your skin! Kale is rich in Vitamin C, which is needed to produce collagen. But it also contains zeaxanthin and lutein, two nutrients that help to reduce the damage done to your skin by UV light. With just one or two cups per day, you get a lot of Vitamins A and C and healthy nutrients!
