Fun things to do in Portland for 2020

Start your day with coffee worth the hype
Someone, somewhere probably told you to try Stumptown Coffee — and for good reason. Portland’s favorite little coffee chain gives Starbucks a run for her money, offering a decidely cool West Coast vibe where all are welcome. Expect hand-crafted lattes, a selection of vegan muffins and pastries, art, and gender-neutral bathrooms. We also think their coffee makes a great souvenir, but if you forget to pick some up you can grab a bag of Stumptown Houseblend on Amazon.
Hit the Japanese Gardens
If you missed our piece on Oregon’s Japanese Gardens, now is the perfect time to be reminded. It’s one of our favorite things to do in Portland because it’s a true sanctuary, perfect Instagram backdrop, and an opportunity to be mindful. Admission is under $20 for adults, kids under 5 are free, and it’s the ideal way to spend your time snacking on local donuts and coffee.
Ice cream you won’t want to miss
Salt & Straw deems itself as “handmade, deliciously interesting ice cream,” and we’re convinced that’s an accurate description. Why? Flavors come in traditional iterations and new and exciting, with creative daily soft serve specials always popping up to keep local taste buds happy. Waffle cones are made on-site in visible waffle irons, and instead of the usual bevy of sprinkles and other expected toppings, chunks of rich brownies and cookie dough cubes are piled on locally-sourced flavors.
Heading there during sometime between June and October? The rose garden is a must.

Even if you’re not normally as obsessed with gardening as Martha, The Portland International Rose Test Garden is a definite must-see for everyone from fragrance lovers to romantics. Heck, even and all the people in between. It’s a quiet slice of Instagram heaven, offering a rare respite from the hustle and bustle of every day life. This scientifically-focused rose test garden makes it possible to hold that trip to England off just a bit longer. But seriously — we’re not kidding. It’s one of the best things to do in Portland if social media pics are your top desire.
