$16,000: Handbag or House?

Written by Danielle

Erm, perhaps Gucci didn’t get the memo that we’re in a recession, but apparently they’re selling a handbag (made of Crocodile with gold hardware!) worth $39,400 but marked down to – you ready? – $15,759. Jeez laweez, what a steal! Let me get to liquidating my emergency savings for this baby, right away! (If only I had an emergency savings…)

"Hysteria" Medium Top Handle Bag, $15,759

Gucci's "Hysteria" Handbag; $15,759

Now, if you’re part of the 1% of the population that just can’t afford such a luxurious deal – and you’re more concerned with keeping a roof over your head in times of economic crisis – might I recommend relocating to Mississippi? I did some research, and  it turns out you can purchase a two-bedroom house in Jackson for the same price as this clearanced handbag:

2746 Hillside, Jackson, Mississippi 32904; $16,000

2746 Hillside, Jackson, MS 32904; $16,000

Granted, it’s a fixer-upper, but it’s twice the size of my Brooklyn pad – all this for just $71 a month (per the listing)! I reckon PETA’s not down with the Croc tote, so I’d happily opt for the house in the boondocks in the case that the Money Tree shakes an extra $16,000 my way.

  • also, you can rent it out to a section-8 tenant for a few hundred a month i assume.
    house=profit.
    bag=no profit.

    if you love the bag so much, print out a picture, and take it to a custom leather designs guy. im sure you can have it replicated for under $1,000.
