Decor Spotting: How to cook and dine in the same small space

Written by Gary

As New Yorkers we are constantly trying to find ways to maximize the space available to us. I, for instance, have managed to jam all my out of season clothing, luggage, unused window cages, and cleaning implements into a space no more than 15 inches wide. My favorite stories though, are the ones where people use intelligent design to create fully functional spaces that utilize every square inch of real estate.

This apartment in Warsaw contains fold-out walls to combine a dining area with a kitchen. The dining table wall cleverly hides the kitchen sink and counter area, and then folds out to create a flip down dining table complete with a charming peek-a-boo window. My favorite thing about this idea is that it combines the necessary (kitchen) with the not-so-necessary (dining room) in order to create a comfortable atmosphere that is pleasing to the eye.

Small space design tip : Decorate with lots of white and blocks of bright color to bring life to a tiny living space.
