People are dying from neti pots, and I’m still using mine. It’s totally f*cking true, and I don’t care what goes on- my sinuses need rinsing. It is winter. I have a deviated septum, a tendency to leave my windows a crack open on freezing nights, and I frequently use mass transit on my way to grimy parties. I am going to get sick. And I’m going to cure my nose-related issues with a neti pot even if people in the south are dying from improper neti pot usage:
According to the news:
The neti pot is a sinus rinse that many use for sinus and allergy relief. A new warning was issued when two people died after using the device.
The type of infection got is extremely rare. Contracting the deadly amoeba can be prevented by using just a few simple steps. If you must use tap water, boil the water to kill off any living organisms. Bottled water and distilled water is also an option, but don’t forget to clean and air dry the device after every use.
Ultimately, the fatal amoeba is more common than one would expect. It can be found in tap water, bath water, lakes and ponds. People who use a neti pot are more vulnerable because the nose is a direct passageway to the brain. The destruction on brain tissue usually results in death within a couple of weeks.
