Music Spotting: Dirty Projectors

Written by Casey

Dirty Projectors have been around since 2002, but only gained popularity in 2009 with their unbelievable track. Stillness is the Move. Finally after a three year hiatus, Dave Longstreth’s band of indie-pop experimentalists have returned! These Brooklyn natives, have most recently released presumably the first single off their untitled forthcoming record. The song, “Gun Has No Trigger” has a volatile title, but it’s only deceiving.

“Gun Has No Trigger” is indeed from their upcoming album (allegedly titled?) Swing Lo Magellan, with a due date of July 10. This song is a lovely  breath of fresh air — Longstreth’s vocals and strings build to a frothy climax over a mellow harmonious percussion and the gorgeous group’s ladies cooing “oohs.”

In 2009 the Dirty Projector’s released Bitte Orca which emerged and created a stunning new genre of music like nothing the world has heard before. “Trigger” is perhaps a less trendy single, but it pulls the right heartstrings.
