Almost Famous A Call To Any Lovers of the Previous Generation

Written by Guest Blogger

The brilliant Rock & Roll playlist to the amazing film Almost Famous.

I have a confession. This 21st century thing, I’m just not always into it. I secretly yearn for a time where girls and boys just played guitar and swayed to the music of Led Zeppelin and Joni Mitchell. And so I bring to you: Almost Famous. The closest I will ever come to going back in time.

In what I believe to be Cameron Crowe’s best film of all time, this Kate Hudson (Ms. Penny Lane)  classic never fails in solidifying the fact that I was born in the wrong decade. I am obsessed with Penny Lane’s carefree attitude and love and passion she has for music. Each time I finish watching Almost Famous, I want to let my hair down, put on some wide-leg-high waisted jeans, a floral top, some platform sandlas, Lennon sunglasses, and move to California to sing and play guitar with flowers in my hair.

It’s all happening!

Sparks- The Who “Listen to Tommy with a candle burning, and you’ll see your entire future.”

America- Simon & Garfunkel “I’m telling secrets to the one guy you don’t tell secrets to.”

Every Picture Tells A Story- Rod Stewart “One day you’ll be cool. Look under your bed, it’ll set you free.”

One Way Out- The Allman Brothers Band “Great art is about guilt and longing and, you know, love disguised as sex, and sex disguised as love.”

Simple Man- Lynyrd Skynyrd “Famous people are just more interesting.”

Tiny Dancer- Elton John “You’re too sweet for rock and roll.”

Something In the Air- Thunderclap Newman “I didn’t invent the rainy day, man. I just own the best umbrella.”

The Wind-Cat Stevens “Where and when does this ‘real world’ occur?”

I‘m Waiting For The Man – Lou Reed “You like Lou Reed?”

“The early stuff. In his new stuff he’s trying to be Bowie, but he should just be himself.”

Baba O’Riley – The Who “This movie would not exist if it weren’t for this song” – Me

Paranoid- BLack Sabbath “Forgive me father, for I may sin tonight.”

River- Joni Mitchell “Music, you know, true music – not just rock n roll – it chooses you.”

Voodoo Child- Jimi Hendrix Experience “Real people, real feelings, that’s it, that’s all I’m interested in.”

Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters- Elton John “Look at this: an entire generation of Cinderellas and there’s no glass slipper.”

Tangerine – Led Zeppelin “Does anybody remember laughter?”

Rain Song- Led Zeppelin “You’ll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle.”
