Art Spotting: Nathan Coley

Nathan Coley’s amazing light instillations

What first attracted me Nathan Coley’s work was the color. Specifically this sign above, including bright pinks, blues, and yellows. And of course how the yellow lights stand out in the night sky (featured below.) I really enjoy the seriousness of his messages being related to government or the environment, yet they are portrayed in an artistic whimsical way.

Nathan Coley (born 1967 in Glasgow, Scotland) is a contemporary British artist and was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in 2007. He studied Fine Art at Glasgow School of Art between 1985 and 1989 and currently works in Glasgow. Coley’s work is predominantly concerned with the way in which architecture reflects and conditions the social environment.
