Art Spotting: The ethereal photography of Kirsty Mitchell

Written by Gary

Some really great things come out of England: guys with English accents, rugby, Pippa Middleton, fashionable hats, Adele, and the word “blimey”. The ethereal fashion photography of Kirsty Mitchell is just one more awesome thing on that list, as evidenced by these photos.

The title of the collection is Wonderland, which is apt given the bright, bold hues and subject matter grounded in high concept fantasy. From flowing ruffled dresses to stylized makeup and hair, Mitchell creates a world reminiscent of the movie What Dreams may Come (a visual masterpiece; the only downside being Cuba Gooding Jr, who I despise for no good reason). Mitchell’s work is my favorite type of photography – the kind that transcends the constraints of what an ordinary camera can capture and takes it to a much higher level of creativity and drama.

Plus, what can I say? I am a sucker for a skinny girl staring dreamily into the distance of a field like she is looking for a sandwich.
