If there’s one thing I “get,” it’s that naming your band is hard. I mean, who hasn’t been there? (I haven’t. I have no idea where I’m going with this.)
Some of the most iconic bands in history were almost called something else. I mean, Radiohead was almost went by the name ‘On a Friday’ (which is kind of cool) but… spooky! Can you imagine a world without Radiohead? I can’t.
Anyway, this isn’t a new problem. Classic rock is full of ‘what could’ve been’ band names. Here are a few of my favorites.
1. Pink Floyd = Tea Set, Meggadeath
2. The Beatles = Johnny & The Moondogs, The Quarrymen
3. Grateful Dead = Mother Mcree’s Uptown Jug Champions, The Warlocks
4. Creedence Clearwater Revival = The Golliwogs
5. The Who = The High Numbers, The Detours
6. Black Sabbath = The Polka Tulk Blues Band, Earth
7. The Cure = Easy Cure
8. Bachman Turner Overdrive = Brave Belt
9. Queen = Smile
10. The Doors = Psychedelic Rangers
