As if pecan pie were lacking, this recipe went ahead and took the liberty of adding chocolate to the mix. Hey, I’m not mad at it. Recipe and image via Deep South Dish.

Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

For the Roasted Pecans:
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) of unsalted butter
1 cup of pecan halves
1 cup of pecan pieces
2 teaspoons of kosher or coarse sea salt

For the Crust:
1-3/4 cups of all-purpose flour
1/4 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder (like Hershey’s)
2/3 cup of powdered sugar
3/4 cup of cold butter or vegetable shortening (like Crisco)
1-1/2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Bars:
3/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar
1 heaping tablespoon of all purpose flour
3 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 cup of light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
2 tablespoons of bourbon, optional
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened at room temperature
