Do you want to show your boyfriend or husband exactly how much you care about him? Every time he leaves the house, do you feel like he takes a piece of you with him? Do you give less than a shit about what other people think of you? If so, on Valentine’s Day, you might consider knitting him some outwear made out of your own hair.
Xiang Renxian, a 60-year-old retired schoolteacher from China had this same idea, and spent 11 years weaving a coat and hat out of her own Asian weave fibers. She started when she was 34. Apparently Renxian was known for her long, glossy hair, so she started collecting it as it fell out. Eventually she had so much of it she decided to find a way to immortalize it, namely by weaving it into clothing for her husband. She ended up using 116,058 strands of her lovely locks. She even weaved her name and date into the cuff, using white strands as her youth faded. She doesn’t mention whether or not her husband likes his gift, or whether she even has a husband anymore after spending 11 years being self-involved, but as you can see the coat is just fantastic. Hopefully it will keep her warm on Valentine’s Day.
