I always choose green tea over coffee when I’m feeling especially health conscious, but now, I’m probably going to stick to my love: black coffee. Yes, it is actually good for you! I’d say its biggest health benefit is the lowered risk of death, but that’s just me. Read on to find out what else coffee can do for you.

You won’t die as quickly. You guys, Starbucks is, like, saving your life. According to a 2012 study, the more coffee (three or more cups a day) people drank, the lower the risk of death regardless of whether participants drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. So that’s why America runs on Dunkin’.

Lowered risk of certain cancers. Drinking coffee lowers men’s risk of developing prostate cancer by 20 percent. It also reduces the risk of endometrial cancer in women by 25 percent.

Supports brain health. Sure, I feel smarter after ingesting the caffeine of a trenta black coffee, but in reality, coffee drinkers are more likely to resist development of dementia and Alzheimer’s later in life.

Wards off skin cancer. A study in the journal Cancer Research that looked specifically at the caffeine in coffee showed that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of developing basal cell carcinoma. So if you insist on tanning beds, at least stop in the Starbucks that is no doubt in the tanning salon plaza.

It’s good for your DNA. A study in the journal Cell Metabolism found that caffeine actually had a similar effect to our DNA molecules in our muscles as exercise. I  mean, don’t stop exercising, but if it’s a really busy day…
