Culture Spotting: Is Alex Wang the New Ghesquière?

Written by emilyc

According to WWD, Alexander Wang is the chosen one when it comes to Nicolas Ghesquière’s replacement. Oh, and by the way, Ghesquière’s last day at Balenciaga was today.

What does this mean for the fashion world? Well, it makes the Ghesquière reference in The Devil Wears Prada movie obsolete, which makes me pretty upset. Also, it raises question as to whether the Parsons drop-out can match Ghesquière’s famed and beloved couture designs. Hopefully, it doesn’t mean that Balenciaga will start showing overpriced, tissue-thin t-shirt akin to T by Alexander Wang (I fell into that trend back in ’09, and that shirt is now misshapen and has, like, seven holes in it). If all this true (it hasn’t been confirmed by Balenciaga or Wang), it would be Wang’s first venture outside of his own label.
