My first time at Brooklyn’s iconic Coney Island was during the off season, embracing the new warmth of Spring. Frolicking in the sand with Converse on, all while being serenaded by a Bob Marley cover band on a lonely boardwalk made me fall in love, hard, with the idea of this beautiful place. Cut to Labor Day – watching drunk Snooki-esque chicks doing funnels at the beach bar, getting nearly run over by fire-dancers & step crews all to the scent of Nathan’s – it was all still pretty beautiful in my eyes.
Uhuru’s Boardwalk Table is handmade with remnants of the original ripped up boardwalk, originally constructed in the late 1940’s. Only 10 will be made, at $14,000 a pop. A pretty penny of history.
