Decor Spotting: A Faux Fireplace

Fireplaces definitely evoke a romantic feel to any apartment. The only problem is, if your place doesn’t come with one, you are basically S.O.L. Given that we have had electricity now for a few million years, fireplaces are no longer a necessity when building a home.

You can fake the feel of a fireplace easily, though. All you have to do is scour antique shops (or do the lazy thing and purchase from Home Depot) for a fireplace mantle. This can be placed in any room an filled with chopped wood to create a shabby-chic cozy feel without spending thousands of dollars on construction. You can also fill the space with tiered candle-holders, like these little lovelies from Pottery Barn. I wouldn’t suggest starting an actual fire unless you have one hell of an insurance policy, though. A faux fireplace is all about form, not function.
