DIY Spotting: Gorgeous Lace Doily Lamp

Written by emilyc

I love happening upon a worthy Pinterest DIY. Sometimes, I’m like, “Let’s be real; only Martha Stewart can execute something like this,” or other times, I’m just like, “Really? Ain’t nobody got time for that.” In this case, however, the simple tutorial and beautiful wallpaper-like shadows that result when this lace lamp is complete thoroughly won me over. You’ll need:

A large balloon (any kind from a party store)

Old crocheted or lace doilies (can be found at flea markets)

Wallpaper glue

Paintbrush

String

Step 1. Blow up the balloon.

Step 2. With the paintbrush, coat the doilies in wallpaper glue so that they’re soaked.

Step 3. Hang the balloon from the string, and cover the balloon with the coated doilies so that they are all overlapping and connected.

Step 4. Once the balloon is covered, paint another layer of wallpaper glue over the entire thing.

Step 5. Let dry overnight, and pop the balloon once completely dry.

Step 6. Place your creation over a lamp fitting and bulb (cut a hole in the top if need be) and voilà!
