As St Patty’s Day quickly approaches some of you may be looking for advice on how to celebrate from the experts. Well, my friends… you have come to the right place. What qualifies TheLuxurySpot as experts on the best day of the year, you ask? Well, not only do we have an abundance of wonderful Irish ladies but two of us, myself and Ash, were actually born on the blessed day. Both of us having survived 21st birthdays on St Pattys day is about as much qualification as anyone should need. Now everyone thinks they need to be downing green beer at their local pub to being doing St Pattys up right. On the contrary, there are several selections that would be just perfect to celebrate my main man Pat. Check out a few of my faves below. Btw… if you have never had Smithwicks, you haven’t lived. It was one of my go-to’s when I studied abroad in the Emerald Isle.Â
All-Irish Black & Tan
½ pint Guinness Draught
½ pint Smithwick’s Irish Ale
From a chilled bottle, fill a clean pint glass just over halfway with Smithwick’s Ale. Open a chilled can of Guinness Draught. The head will rise. Prepare to pour. Place your Black & Tan spoon (regular spoon will also work) face down on the rim of the glass and slowly pour your newly opened Guinness Draught over it. When the Guinness has risen to just proud of the rim, you’re ready to enjoy the distinct pleasures of The All-Irish Black & Tan.
Black Velvet
5 oz chilled Guinness
1 ½ oz chilled Champagne
Pour Guinness into champagne flute. Add champagne carefully, so it does not mix with Guinness, and serve.
Now, if you are going to go to all the trouble to make yourself a scrumptious Irish delight of a beverage then you might as well drink it out of the proper glasses. I recommend Spiegelau’s Beer Classics Collection, which consists of the Wheat Beer, the Lager, the Stemmed Pilsner glass, and the new Tall Pilsner glasses. Each style of glass is available as a pair for $29.90 and the set of 6 glasses cost $75. They are available at Spiegelauwebstore.com
love speiglau’s glasses, didn’t know they made them for beer too. i always thought a black velvet was made with cider–going to have to try it with champagne!
IRISH TRILOGY – PART 1 – HARP LAGER
‘Tis sure I’ll be wearing the green,
When the calendar says March seventeen,
I’ll drink a few Harp,
Til my wits become sharp,
Just try some, you’ll know what I mean.
