Beauty resolutions are easier than ever to keep when they’re easy and show results quickly.
1. Have you tried kombucha? If you haven’t had a sip of this lightly sweetened, fizzy health drink… well, you need to. At about 40 calories per serving it’s just sweet enough to replace a soda without any of the guilt of corn syrup, heavy sugars, or dangerous chemicals. The most important beauty benefit of kombucha though is the natural probiotics in the drink– they work tirelessly to cleanse your innards of gross bacteria, battle bloat, and keep your skin in perfect harmonic health. And they pair well with a sandwich, if you ask me.
2. Kick acne to the curb. The age old acne problem is one that humankind has tried, and tried again to battle with peroxide and strange acids and retinoids and all sorts of weird things that actually make skin WORSE before it starts to get better. Why, oh why, would anyone want that? I’m pretty excited that Aczone is now available on the Rx market now, because it works without the harsh irritants of retinoids or peroxide to banish acne. You need to visit your derm to see if it’s right for you, but so far it’s my skincare trend prediction for 2015. For more info check out aczone.com.
3. All you have to do is hydrate. Seriously. If there’s one easy thing you can commit to for 2015, it’s lotioning your body each and every time you step out of the shower. It’s that simple. You’ll lock hydration in, have softer skin, less of that weird cracky/flaky winter skin drama, and 10 years from now you’ll be the one with great, vibrant skin in your group of friends. I like leaving a bottle of AVEEENO Daily Moisturizing Lotion on my bathroom vanity and one on my desk at work– that way there’s never an excuse to go with dry skin. It has real oatmeal extracts that are gentle on skin, and the mild scent and packaging make it a hit for my husband and guests, too. Available here.
4. Take off your eye makeup, lady! Seriously, do you want old looking, infected eyes? That’s what you’re asking for if you don’t take a minute each night to wipe off the eyeliners, mascaras, and other products you schmear on each day. Simple Skincare makes the easiest little packets of eye makeup remover wipes that are essentially much tinier versions of their face wipes. I swear by them, and they’re at drugstores everywhere for just a few bucks a pack. Available here.
5. Take care of your scalp. With all the ads and celebs repping major shampoo labels it’s hard to pick something in the drugstore aisle that actually works. Hair health starts at the base of the hair, the scalp, so the best thing you can do is nourish from the root up for long-term healthy hair. Clear Scalp & Hair makes a new Active Damage Resist shampoo and conditioner that’s designed to take care of the scalp first and then go to work repairing all the damage you’ve done to your tresses over the years it’s been on your head. Available and at drugstores everywhere.
8. Give your hair some body. And don’t waste a ton of money on blowouts all the time, either. I’ve raved about the KISS InstaWave before, and I’m raving about it again. Check out this instagram video I made (via @brycegruber) on how to add volume and life to your 4 day old blowout:
