Transforming a plain white box of a bedroom into an enchanting kids’ room design is within reach for DIYers, and this forest-themed escape is proof. A clever parent turned a boring bedroom into a magical kingdom that feels more like a yurt house than a typical apartment.
Just look at these before and after photos:
“Sharing my transformation of a little girl’s room I did who wanted something a bit magical/enchanting,” shares a Facebook post from the popular group, Ideas In The House.
The post quickly set off a firestorm of positive comments.

“I love this!” shared one group member, “I would have loved this as a girl, and I would like it now!” And we have to agree.
The transformation began with painting the walls a soft, mossy green tone. It’s the same popular shade we’ve seen at Maine beach houses, rustic Catskills cabin estates and other interiors that honor forestscapes.
Then, choose a forest mural decal for one wall. This one is easy to apply and measures 195 by 120 inches. It’s easy to trim down or double up as needed.
Next, you need a neutral-toned bed in either a rich wood finish or a soft-textured neutral. In this case, a soft beige velvet bed frame was chosen.
We found similar styles under $200 here. These ship free, are easy to assemble and come in twin, full, queen and king sizes. They’re also easy to wipe down in case your enchanting little royal makes a mess.
Fill your space with brilliant details like these:
- Wood letter boards to spell out your child’s name
- Rattan pendant lights: this one hits the nail on the head and can easily be used in a variety of other kids’ room design ideas)
- Fairy dolls: buy a few Dream Seekers—they’re perfect!
- Deer head planters: we love these $8 ceramic planters that come in a variety of woodland creature designs
- Wood shelf swings: we found these under $10! These are definitely some of the best gifts under $30, too.
- Hanging faux moss
- Faux ivy to drape on bookshelves and from the walls
- Faux ferns
- Posters detailing woodland creatures and favorite myths: these are absolutely adorable
- Wood bookshelves and racks: this wood option comes in several finishes and is under $60
- Dark wood picture frames to fill the space with images of your child in nature: we found a four-pack of 8 by 10 cherrywood frames for $30

The look really comes together with a collection of age-appropriate books for kids, soft and cozy throw blankets in warm, neutral tones and fun sleep accessories.
We especially love the wood stump and log pillows!
“This transformation is amazing,” commented another Facebook user. “I want it for myself. I’m so impressed with your creative work!”
Another added, “it looks so complicated when put together, but I can see each detail is really easy to DIY. I’m going to incorporate some of the wood details into my son’s room!”
