French Cotton

Written by Kela

Bienvenue!…That’s french for “Welcome”, a greeting appropriate for the Parisian ready to wear brand Comptoir Des Contonniers, that just made their American debut. Opening a 1,000 square-foot space in the heart of Soho, the line is owned by the same folks behind Uniqlo.  However, unlike its Japanese sibling, Comptoir des Cotonniers clothes are anything but inexpensive with prices ranging from $150 to $500.    If you aren’t familiar with the line, think Gap, J Crew or Club Monaco but more refined and simplistic. The brand is known for its feminine, easy to wear designs, made in natural fabrics like cotton, hence its name Comptoir des Cotonniers – a place for cotton.

The clothes outlining the store are mostly made of a dark color palette with separates in black, grey and brown with hints of color here and there. Fans of the brand include Susan Sarandon and daughter Eva Amurri who were the host for the store’s Thursday evening opening. Apparently, the company loves mother-daughter duos; they are holding a casting for the two this Sunday October 26th from 3pm to 7pm. Those lucky enough to be selected will be flown to Paris for a high fashion photo shoot and will get the chance to walk the Comptoir des Cotonniers’ Spring 09 fashion show. Ooh la la, what better reason than a free trip to France do you need to check out the new store. And remember to have your mother or daughter in tow. Au Revoir!
