Whoever said New York City was expensive, was wrong. Actually, no, they were right, but only about 89% right. I’ve been frolicking the city to search for the best treasures I can find that meet these two criteria: extra glamorousness and affordability. If you know where to look and stray a little bit off the tourist-beaten path, you can really find some gems that fit the budget of someone who chooses between food and apartment rent.
Yesterday’s quest brought me to Angel Street Thrift in Chelsea. It was merchandised with great finds at prices that reminded me of living in Florida in the 90s. A lot of the furniture pieces there were the type of things that you look at and you’re like, “Do I know any gays who know how to reupholster?” Since I surprisingly don’t, I opted for the more outrageous iPhone case that rang up at a whopping $1. That’s cheaper than a cup of ice at the corner bodega!
