Japan has announced Godzilla as its official tourism ambassador, shocking no one.

Every time I come across something totally crazy out of Japan I get really happy because it makes me feel like the crazy stuff that comes out of my place of birth (Florida) is just a little less insane.

Japan has decided to give Godzilla a ‘symbolic ambassadorship’ because the best way to invite people to visit your country is by welcoming them with a 300 foot dragon monster that levels cities. The ambassadorship doesn’t actually come with any diplomatic responsibilities, which I guess is a good thing since Godzilla doesn’t actually exist.

Apparently there was an official ceremony in Tokyo where they played Godzilla movies and presented the monster with a sash and certificate.

At least Godzilla is now in good company; the title is also held by Hello Kitty.
