Hesta Prynn: Lady DJ at the intersection of fashion and tech

Written by Bryce

Hesta Prynn is a lady DJ at the intersection of fashion and awesome. She’s a fearless go-getting gal with an edgy style, collaborations so big your head will spin, and somehow an acute sense of reality. Like, in between writing Ludacris’ music and providing the pulse of the best parties in NYC and beyond, she’s hustling on marriage, home life and friendship (truthfully, she’s great at the friendship part, too). She’s that’s slick.

She dished on her style faves, what she’s working on, and how she’s mixing technology into her world- a world typically reserved for total bros.

“Everything I do stems from music – I DJ music festivals like Governors Ball and Bonnaroo and also events for brands like Cadillac and Vogue. I am a ghostwriter for songs for pop and hip-hop artists,” she says. “I’m writing for Ludacris as well as some of the Roc Nation artists right now which is so exciting. People don’t know but I wrote ‘Curbside Prophet’ with Jason Mraz years ago, it’s on his first record and I am actually featured on that track. I always hear it when I’m in Bloomingdales with my mom and she freaks out.”

In some ways, Hesta Prynn is a normal girl from Long Island- she’s shopping in Bloomingdale’s with her mom, heading to holiday dinners in NYC with friends and family, and focusing on starting a family. In other ways she’s the exact opposite of what you’d expect from a white suburban girl- coining lyrics and music for some of the biggest rap stars out there and dancing her way to the top of the music scene from behind a pearly DJ booth.

“Everything I do is on the computer…” says Prynn. “In the studio everything is on the computer – I live for monitors! I use Spotify to virtually ‘dig’ through the crates. Music is discovered, consumed and performed on computers these days.”

I talked shoes and portable tech with my fab DJ friend and discovered that aside from being a huge music fan, she’s a mega-fashion addict (but who isn’t?).  She’s obsessed with Jeffrey Campbell booties, Project Runway, and keeping track of her life and inspiration on her mobile tablet.

“I love a low black bootie, I have an amazing pair by Jeffrey Campbell that I get so many compliments on. I’m a big fan of girlie-edgy desginers like Erin Fetherston, Alice & Olivia and Sandro.”

Some of Hesta Prynn’s inspired picks:

Jeffrey Campell Lita Booties

HP Envy x2 Tablet (comes with a keyboard, too!)

NARS Lip Pencil in Cruella (also one of our fave NARS products)
