Are you as obsessed as I am with ABC’s new show “Pan Am?” I am totally jeal-bots of how good those air waitresses/stewardesses look in their cute little blue uniforms. However, there is a flip side to looking FWF (Fabulous While Flying) in a cute mini skirt and peep toe pumps – you will feel as uncomfortable as Ru Paul feels in men’s clothing. Let’s face it, traveling is Paula Abdul straight up an unpleasant means to an endestination, with cold and cramped cabins, blabbering babies, long security lines, and sub-standard snacks. So here are five tips on how to maximize comfort the next time you embark on a journey:
1. Wear slip-on shoes, i.e. ballet flats, UGG boots, Crocs (if you must, this is the one time they are acceptable), clogs, etc. This will expedite the de-robing process at security, and will allow you the option to slip out of your shoes once you’re seated to wiggle your toes.
2. Minimize jewelry & accessories. Again, another tip to expedite the screening process at security. Spend the hour you would’ve spent taking off/putting back on all your jewelry (30 minutes before and after going through security) relaxing with a pre-flight cocktail at the air bar.
3. Use a carry-on with rollers. Luggage is too expensive to check-in nowadays, so we are all opting to cram-pack our lives into our carry-on’s, which are more often than not, too heavy to actually carry. So save your back and save time – make sure your “carry on” rolls.
4. Wear stretchy pants. You are going to be sitting for a while, you might as well be comfortable and wear jeans with stretch or sweatpants. By wearing pants with an elastic waistband, you won’t need to wear a belt, which will also speed up your time at the security checkpoint.
* Disclaimer: Juicy Couture velour track pants and pajama pants are NEVER okay to ever wear in public, no matter how comfortable they feel!
5. Stay cozy with fleece. Avoid feeling chilled on the plane and bring a warm sweatshirt or fleece pullover with you just in case.
Until Scottie is able to beam you up, wishing you safe and stress-free travels! Good journey…
