Mattress Facts to Help You Sleep Soundly

Written by Bryce

You probably sleep on one every single night… so you should know more about it, right?

Sleep is one of my favorite pastimes. In fact, things in bed are generally things I like. Reading before sleep, late night computing, breakfast in bed, romantic adventures… and well, plain old sleep. So here at the super fab facts that you need to know before you hit the sack next:

Things we do in Bed:

  • It’s better on springs – nearly 70 percent of men and women rate an innerspring mattress as the best sleep surface for sex. Innerspring mattresses, like the Sealy Posturepedic, have a certain ‘bounce’ which creates a more playful *ahem* sleep space.
  • Snuggle buddies – more than 80 percent of people surveyed say they snuggle with a spouse/significant other in bed. Sixty percent say they talk on the phone to someone close to them while lying in bed.
  • Snoring Blues – Did you know your partner’s snoring can affect your health? There’s nothing sexy about that! Make your sleep life better by opting for a mattress made for two.
  • Time to Unwind: Over 70 percent of men and women watch their favorite TV show or listen to music in bed.
  • Be a Book Worm: Over 70 percent of men and women enjoy laying in bed to read a book.
  • Enjoy Time with your feline friend: Nearly 50 percent of men and women enjoy snuggling up with the dog or cat at the end of the bed.  Enjoy your pet’s company now and always.

Mattress Facts:

  • You should replace your box spring at the same time you are replacing your mattress: Your box spring acts much like a large shock absorber, taking a lot of the nightly wear and tear, and it contributes to your comfort and support. Don’t put a new mattress on an inappropriate box spring. When you select the mattress, purchase its companion box spring. The two are designed to work best together.
  • How long should my sleep set last? The Better Sleep Council advises consumers to buy the highest-quality bedding they can afford, then replace old bedding every eight to ten years. After this many years, even the best bedding may no longer provide the comfort and support you deserve.
  • What do I do with my old mattress? Most bedding retail stores will assist with the disposal of old bedding as a value-added store service. Ask about this type of service before you purchase!
  • Why are some of today’s beds so thick? My sheets don’t fit! Today’s mattresses are manufactured with much more upholstery padding and comfort layers than in days gone by! Many sleepers prefer the plush and ultra-plush comfort that these thick mattresses provide. Deep pocket sheets are the ultimate solution.
