If you’re a well-heeled New Yorker, you’re probably all but totally bored of the usual event suspects. Seriously, Fashion Week doesn’t even impress New Yorkers anymore… so what’s left? We’ve got a few not-to-be-missed events in the city this week that’ll change your perspective on cool, fun, and and even a little spiritual:
1. CMJ Music Marathon 2012. If you want gospel music during brunch, head to B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. If you prefer late-night PBR and indie-rock wailing, the Knitting Factory is the place for you. Catch a show after work at Sullivan Hall, or get your evening started at midnight at The Glasslands Gallery. It’s all happening this week, and some of the events are cheaper than a fresh squeezed juice.
Ticket prices vary by show.
2. Reincarnation with Karen Berg. If you’re not already with Karen Berg or Kabbalah, think of her as a spiritual mother to a massive flock of high-powered and spiritually-connected people. Her straight-forward approach to life (and beyond) has attracted the likes of Madonna, Ashton Kutcher, and about a gazillion other celebs… and even if you’re not totally into delving deeper into your soul, it’s worth checking out for a new perspective. This week Karen is in New York for a lecture in Midtown about the Kabbalistic perspective on reincarnation and how this wisdom can help each of us overcome the hurdles we encounter every day and ultimately change the world we live in. And, if I’m not in a hospital somewhere in the depths of downtown giving birth to a newly reincarnated soul, I’ll probably be there too.
$42, Sunday October 21 at 7pm at the Metropolitan Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel. Email betty.rosen@kabbalah.com for registration.
3. Nerd Jeapordy! Powered by Penguin Press and litcentric site Small Demons, this trivia night challenges bookworms to form teams of three and compete in a literary version of the TV game show. Free beer and wine will lube up those who arrive early, and badgering lackluster players is encouraged.
Bring your nerd A-game this Thursday night at McNally Jackson Books, 52 Prince St, (between Lafayette and Mulberry Streets)
4. Crafts in Chelsea. Crafts in Chelsea is a 100% handmade market where all the goods sold are made by talented, mostly local artisans. There will be jewelry, art, photography, ceramics, and a ton of other pre-holiday season goodies to stock up on so you can mostly focus on your December vacation planning come colder weather.
Free to browse, bring cash for the goodies! Saturday October 20, 11 AM to 4PM at PS 11 on West 21st Street between 8th and 9th Aves)
