I’ve been growing antsy waiting for Spring to arrive. I love winterwear as much as the next girl, but there’s something about earth tones and muted accessories that bore me to death by the time February rolls around. How many ways can one wear black? (The answer is plenty, but waking up every morning and dressing for a funeral can put a damper on anyone’s mood.)
As I anxiously await to breathe some life back into my wardrobe, I’ve been researching how to transition into a more lively season. I’ve found the best way to brighten my look without looking like a displaced Easter bunny is by swapping my neutral look for brighter makeup.
Last week, Ashley mentioned the top 5 nail trends for Spring, so let’s start there. It seems like The Luxury Spot ladies are split on matte nails, but I’m all for ’em, especially during the pre-Spring season. This is a great way to add some color without breaking out the flashy disco nails before the time is right. CND nails makes a great Super Matte top coat ($8.00) to dull down the shine, creating a modern, sand-blasted look. You know, like the White Out-on-nails craze of the whatever-decade-you-were-in-elementary-school era.
For those that aren’t crazy about matte, CND also makes an array of shiny top coats to add some iridescence to your favorite basecoat. I would wait until the April showers pass to sparkle that intensely, but wearing the top coat alone is a subtle way to let everyone know you’re ready to shine hard this year. Get glammed up with a multitude of shades for $11.00.
As far as basecoats go, I’m still a fan of China Glaze. Their new Up In The Air line is full of not-so-dainty pastels that are perfectly suited to be manipulated by unconventional topcoats. Try Four Leaf Clover (kelly green)Â or Grape Pop (bright plum)Â until we can say peace out to winter for good; then turn your sights to something sweeter, like Happy Go Lucky (a sunshine yellow). For $6.50 a pop, you can’t go wrong.
No matter the season, I tend to dart around from work to social event to nightcap without stopping home. Because of this, my purse resembles a pharmacy of sorts. Makeup tends to slide off of my face every four hours or so, so I keep some products on tap for reapplication. My favorite addition to the artillery is Mally eyeliners. Half the size of typical eyeliner pencils with all of the glam.
The set includes eyecatching colors like Royal Plum, Caribbean Blue Sea, and Starshine. Swap out your black bottom liner and opt for one of these colorful pencils for a brighter eye. Available exclusively at QVC for $22.80.
