Studies Show Housework = More Sex

Written by Bryce

Cleaning up leads to cleaning up in bed.

While housework is hardly glam by traditional standards, The Wall Street Journal indicates there’s a positive correlation between couples cleaning together and couples getting sexy together. If that’s not reason enough to tidy up the living room, I don’t know what is. It’s not all ho-hum and boring, though. Here are five products that are so good you’ll be excited to spend Saturday afternoon cleaning up so you can spend Saturday night romping in bed:

1. Dyson DC59. It’s slim, it’s portable, and gives you all the crazy suction you’d expect from a Dyson. This Dyson is unlike the other one you probably already have in your storage closet, however, because it can go cordless. I happen to leave this one tucked away in the corner of my bedroom for accidental kiddie crumbs (they’re not supposed to have cheerios in my room, but, things happen), fallen hairs, goose down, and whatever other random items pop up.

It’s a total pleasure to push, and if you have just one room or a small apartment, you might not need any other vacuum at all (girls, if you have a studio, this is the vac for you). Available here.

2. Make your laundry fun AND healthy. So this isn’t going in the “folding clean clothes burns calories” direction at all. In fact, most commercially made laundry soaps are just so full of chemical junk that you can’t even be sure washing your clothes in that stuff is even doing you a favor. I’m loving Mrs. Meyers Clean Day products, especially their laundry detergent, because they don’t test on animals, and the ingredients are at least 97% plant derived. So, pass me a pile of socks, it’s laundry time.

3. Clean your counters. Inhale. Repeat. Get rid of the grimy stuff that’s probably lurking on your counters. You know, fingerprints, food residue, you name it… it all needs to go. Do yourself a favor and use something that’ll leave you in a nearly aromatherapeutic trance. Caldrea’s Black Coriander Lime spray smells like a spa, gets the job done, and if you forget to put it back underneath the sink with the rest of the cleaning supplies, don’t worry– the packaging is so pretty you won’t even mind. Available here.

4. An empty home can smell musty, even after just one weekend. Did you know that homes with even slight drafts are prone to damp, musty odors after even just one empty weekend? If you’re the type to travel a lot, consider leaving a good reed diffuser in each room over 250 square feet– they’re especially good in big, open spaces so the scent can gently waft throughout the air.

Try something with a clean, inviting scent like Modern Notes’ Fig Leaf diffuser and reed set. Available exclusively at b-glowing.com

5. Leave a good hand soap in every bathroom. Aside from frequent hand washing being the right MORAL move (um, hello, post-bathroom?), it also just wards off unnecessary illnesses like strep and the common cold. Don’t go crazy dropping a ton of cash on hand soap, or you’ll be less likely to wash your hands as often as you really need. Try something cute, fragrant and affordable like the new Soft Soap Decor Collection. The collection will retail for under $4 a bottle, and will be available just about everywhere. With scents like “Peony and Plum” you really can’t miss.
