Style Spotting: How to Talk That Fashion Talk During NYFW

Written by emilyc

Sounding smart and fashionable is almost as imperative as looking smart and fashionable during New York Fashion Week. With a slew of events ranging from Fashion’s Night Out, to mingling at shows, to dancing the night away at after parties, chances are you’ll be doing some heavy networking starting this upcoming week. To help you out when it comes to chic conversation with the chicest of the fashion world’s people, I’ve compiled a cheat sheet that makes great small talk everywhere from Milk Studios to Lincoln Center.

Beginning in 1993, Fashion Week was held in Bryant Park. It switched to Lincoln Center in 2010.

Famous alumni from Parsons: Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, Jenna lyons, Anna Sui, Jason Wu, Narciso Rodriguez

Famous alumni from F.I.T.: Reem Acra, Nina Garcia, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Nanette Lepore

Anna Wintour is the third most talked about celebrity, falling just behind the likes of Nicki Minaj and Beyonce.

The top 3 most talked about designers are Marc Jacobs,Victoria Beckham, and Oscar De La Renta, respectively.

NYC’s fashion industry generates about $10 billion in wages annually and employs over 8% of the city’s workforce.

In case you’re wondering about the salaries of the people you’re talking to for some reason, just know that buyers make the most (the models are a close second).

The average cost of those beloved gift bags and favors that you find on/under you seat is $500.

One of the reasons for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week’s move from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center was its interference with public use of the main lawn during late summer and operation of the skating rink in the winter.

With a major in international business and years of being surrounded by ill-fitting suits and all the wrong shoes, she learned that the importance of fashion needs to be communicated to the world. To her, fashion is on the same level as charity work and feeding hungry children. Emily can be found frolicking the streets of her gayborhood enjoying the off-color humor of the gays.
