Style Spotting: Wearable Crop Tops

Nanette Lepore Spring 2012 runway

I love the excitement each new season’s fashion brings; however, I am especially excited for spring because my new diet called “poor” just happens to coincide perfectly with this season’s go-to, albeit revealing, piece: the crop top.

Not to worry. Just because you happen to actually make a living and are wary of showing some midriff since you’ve been using some of those paychecks for nourishment to get you through each day, crop tops should not intimidate you. The trick is how you incorporate them into your overall ensemble. Pair one with a high waisted pencil skirt or high waisted wide-leg pant and a cardigan, and you have yourself a mere sliver of ribcage exposed amidst a knockout getup for which a Catholic school nun could not admonish you. The crop top suddenly morphs from something you thought only 90s Barbie could wear to a way to show the other moms at pre-K that you are chicer than them!

Now instead of using that paycheck on yours or your family’s next meal, go out and get yourself this season’s must-have!
My personal faves are Nanette Lepore’s Spring ’12 runway neon crop tops in super thick fabrics – all the better to trick yourself into thinking you are being conservative.
